Winches are mainly used for off-road vehicles and other special vehicles. It is a self-protection and traction device for vehicles. It can rescue vehicles in bad environment such as snow, swamp, desert, beach and muddy mountain road. It can also remove obstacles, drag objects and install facilities under other conditions. It is an indispensable safety device for field sports.
If the vehicle is in trouble, the situation should be analyzed and the cause of the vehicle trapped should be determined before the winch is used for rescue. If the vehicle is heavily mounted on rocks or stumps, consider lifting the vehicle with a jack and stuffing under the tires to remove obstacles.
When the winch is used for self-rescue, it can be wrapped on trees or big stones by a tree-holding belt, and then the winch cable can be folded back into the vehicle by a pulley before towing. Do not wind the winch cables around the tree directly because it may cause the trees to die. If necessary, winch can be towed at a certain angle. But be careful that the cables are stacked on the side of the winch drum.
Do not attempt to guide cables when winches work, because this may lead to serious damage. After removing the obstacle, the cable can be pulled out and rewound. If possible, use the power of the vehicle and the power of the winch gradualy and steadily, do not pull suddenly and do not roll the winch cable.
If there are two cars and one winch,
1. Connect the winch hook to the trapped vehicle.
2. Hang the vehicle in the lowest gear, then gently increase the accelerator to help the winch to be towed.
3. Stay on the brake pedal of the anchored vehicle and fix it in a proper position. If necessary, place stones or logs in front of the wheels.
4. Anchored vehicles can also be hanged to reverse gear, and then gradually pull up the trapped vehicles. With this technology, both the power of the two cars and winch strength can be obtained.
If there are two cars and they are both equipped with winches, then two winches can be used.
1. Simple and basic winch tow
Use winch direct towing. Both vehicles must be in the four wheel drive state. Hang up the reverse gear of the towing vehicle, and slowly increase the throttle while towing. The trapped vehicle should be on the first gear and slightly increase the accelerator while it is being towed.Hook up the appropriate towing hook or frame when hooking the vehicle. Do not hook the bumper!The double wheel pulley composed of thread pulley or pulley can effectively double the winch capacity. This technology is used in the face of more difficult situations.
2. Use the winch
The pull on the first lap of the winch drum is the rated tension of the winch. For example, the rated tension of the winch is 8000 Newton, which is 8000 Newton just when the winch cable coils the first lap of the drum. After each winding around the drum, the winch loses about 1000 Newton’s pull.Remember: by using the thread pulley, the capacity of the winch can be doubled.
3. The correct way to connect two traction belts
The safety way to connect two nylon belts is: use a 1/4 “hardwood locating pin (12″ long). Sturdy boughs can also well connect to two traction belts. It is also possible to slide the traction belt sleeve ring through the leaf spring shackle and fixed with a 1/4” locating pin or a piece of wood. Never use U hook. If the nylon belt is broken, it will become a deadly projectile.
4. Winch operating summary
Always wear gloves when using winches. The winch wire often burrs, and may prick your hands.In the use of the capstan, always use the capstan cover, large canvas, towel or other items on the steel cable on the winch, which will play a buffer protection when the cable disconnects.
Do not stand next to or straddle the rope while using the winch.
If there is no tow hook, only hook the frame or leaf spring shackle. Be careful when hooking the vehicle to avoid potentially dangerous situations or vehicle damage.
Do not yank the rope of the winch or use it like a towing belt.
Do not attach the hook to the winch drum. Loosen gradually about 3 feet from the winch coil bearing.
Do not attempt to wrap the wire evenly while the winch is towing. After towing, the rope can be pulled out and then evenly rewound.
Do not press the wire of the winch.
Do not wind the winch cable around the object. This will kink.
Do not hook the winch cable. This will cut the cable or weaken the cable.
Do not prop or lift another with a winch.
Always make sure that the winch wire has at least five loops on the drum before using the winch,
When using the winch, always keep everyone as far away from the wire as possible, at least 30 feet away.
Be especially careful when rolling the rope of the winch. Keep your hands and fingers out of contact.
When the winch towing ends and the rope begins to wrap, leave about three feet of cable, so that the winch hook can freely connect the tow hook or bumper.
Remember to untie the winch and the control cable when completing the tow.
If the space is limited for winch towing, tie the webbing or towing tape to the roots of small trees or dense bushes.
Do not wind the winch wire around the tree, or hook the winch wire, this will cut off the cable or weaken the performance of the cable. Coiling the cables on trees can damage or kill the trees, which is illegal in many places and can lead to huge fines.
